Acupuncture Course For Massage Therapists Canceled
Dear Colleagues:
As many of you know, the "Illinois Medical Acupuncture Association" (not to be confused with the Illinois chapter of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture - AAMA [the MD's/DO's] ) was planning a course for this week that would have taught massage therapists to do acupuncture. The course would have been one weekend with DVD course learning for follow up.
Thanks to the work of the Illinois Acupuncture Federation and ILAAOM, the course has been cancelled and the Department of Professional Regulation (IDFPR) will monitor further activity of this group.
Special thanks to our fantastic lobbyist, Steve Morrill, for acting as our liaison to the Department, and also Mary Rogel andClaudette Baker for their stellar work. Thanks as well to the American Massage Therapy Association - Illinois Chapter - for being so supportive in collaborating on this effort, and also to those of you who contacted ILaaom to alert us to this situation. Thanks to Pacific College, the Asian American Acupuncture Association, and the Korean American Acupuncture Association for being IAF leaders and supporters of excellence in Acupuncture in Illinois.
We will continue to work to keep acupuncture safe and effective in Illinois! Thanks for your membership and involvement - it is critical for reasons just such as this!
If you've not yet renewed your ILaaom membership, now is the time! Please see the new www.ilaaom.org website for online renewal.
All the best,
David W. Miller, MD, LAc
Legislative Chair, ILaaom
President, Illinois Acupuncture Federation
